The State Theatre is an absolute treasure for Traverse City! I've seen some amazing movie here and I hope to see many more. I would encourage all TC locals to support and appreciate this gem!

Visited two times so far. Saw a foreign film both times. These are films that do not always frequent the general population. There are kids shows on the weekends too. It is an old theatre. Parking in street with meter parking. However, in the evening free. Prices are cheap, and you can buy snacks, popcorn, drinks at reasonable prices. Restrooms... More

This theater has been restored and updated beyond what imagined. I remember going as a youngester when it was one of the only two single screen theaters in town...and it still has that same feel today. A true experience of "going out" on a special night.

This theater creates a fun atmosphere with an upbeat friendly staff, great surround sound- comfortable seating and the prices are fantastic. You can actually go to the movies and get snacks without spending a fortune!

I have only been here a couple of times, but I have enjoyed it each time. The old time elegant atmosphere is well set off by how comfortable it is to view a movie there. In other more modern theaters, I end up sliding down in the seats during a feature to try to get more comfortable, but not here.... More

Seats large and comfy, lighting is beautiful, everything about it is very well done! They really did a wonderful job in reconditioning this old cinema!

You have not been to a theatre until you've been to the State. Do *not* pass up a chance to see a movie or performance at the State. Movies are through state of the art projectors and sound system! The ceiling is accurately painted with stars from the night sky, the seats are super comfortable, the whole theatre is something... More

Comfy seats, quiet and respectful audience, cheaper concessions, friendly AND smiling employees...what a great movie-going experience! An employee makes little announcements before the movie starts, even offering to put money in your parking meter if it's a long movie! I can't believe it took me so long to "discover" this place and be reminded of how enjoyable it can be... More

Just great movies, very friendly (all-volunteer) staff, comfy seats, good popcorn, and local concessions (local chocolate, trail mix, dried apple slices), clean.
