If you like adventure take the underground tour. Be prepared to wear a hard hat. The temperature is about 50 degrees so you may want to bring a jacket. It was interesting being down there and hearing about the miners. This was not very deep or too closed in so those who may have claustophobia should still be able to... More

The museum, which is located on the west side of uptown Butte, is on the site of the Orphan Girl mine, and the headframe (Gallows frame) is in place over the shaft. The sheave wheels are in place as is the draw works. The central part of the tour is the draw works building with exhibits on the main floor... More

It's a Mining Museum and Tour. Yes you will see old interesting things from the mining era. If that is what you are interested in, you will enjoy this. You MUST take the tour or it is not worth your time going. I agree with a past review that the display of dolls has nothing to do with mining and... More

Great place to learn about Butte and the mining community. Good place to get some exercise on a nice day, the walk around should take about an hour and half. Would suggest to all locals and visitors.

Its just an eclectic mix of fun things and you can see a tipple up close and the machinery that it took to operate the mine since it is located at the site of a real underground mind. Great mineral collection and its old town while brought in is still very realistic.

I learned a lot during this very interesting tour down an old mine shaft. Never realized the hard work and danger that the miners faced. Worthwhile if you're visiting the museum.

The most diversified history of Butte. Set up like an old mining town. Very well organized into streets of an old mining town. The best historic picture selection in Buttte!!!

Take the opportunity to attend the mine tour. You decent down a 65 foot deep mine shaft (110 ft and down is all filled with water) and you get to see what it was like for the miners in Butte. A great tour. This is the highlight of the museum.

I thought this might be a tourist trap but it really was well thought out and included many storefronts with real antiques and descriptive materials to give you a good feel of what a mining camp might be like in the 1800's. Great for the family and all will learn a bit more about mining. Do take the mine tour.

We enjoyed visiting this museum located in an actual mine yard. Our guide demonstrated some of the actual equipment that was used in this mine. A very interesting experience .
