The railway hub for Union Pacific. Saw the museum and a short film, then went up to the 7th level – the observation deck and watched some trains come through “Bailey Yard” and use viewfinders to watch a little closer. We saw the repair yard as well. Then went up to the top deck and visited with a volunteer who... More

Fabulous views of Bailey yard! We enjoyed both the outdoor and indoor decks. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful.

Super friendly staff and lots of railroad history in this area. Check closing time. There is a fee to go up the tower. Nice little gift shop as well

A mate of mine would still be in the Tower if he ever went here , train mad he is ! But I must admit it was a fascinating visit and we learnt a lot as it was us & the volunteer (ex-conductor) !! The old bloke lived and breathed trains and was a real treat to talk and listen... More

Indulge your inner geek and make a visit to the Union Pacific switching yard, the largest in the US. The new Golden Spike Tower gives you a great view, and tells the story of railroads in America.

You can't pass through North Platte, Nebraska without checking out the world’s largest railroad yard. The Golden Spike Tower was built to show visitors the yard from an aerial view, and also tell visitors what goes on in the yard during a 24-hour period. Movies, displays, and volunteers answer questions and explain what you are seeing. There is both an... More

I enjoyed learning about the railroad and seeing all of the trains being moved around. I had no idea there was a place like this and it gave me a new appreciation for what the railroads mean to our country.

Guess we were expecting so much more. The tower is not associated with the UP and, unless you want to put quarters in the viewers, all you see are the yards and trains at a distance. The yard is impressive and worth the price, but we came away with a let down feeling...not an up close view that we thought... More

We got our chance to see the Golden Spike Tower and Visitor Center when we were at Railfest 2012 in North Platte, Nebraska. It was a railroad wonder. You are able to see 360 degrees of wonder, both of railroad tracks from the east and west, the whole Bailey yard, the town of North Platte and the surrounding area. It... More
