Just returned home from a trip to visit family in Maine. Just wanted to comment on my trip on the Mount Washington Cog Railway. I would give the experience a definite thumbs up. Honestly a bit steep in ticket pricing. However the very informative and hospitable Parks Staff and employees, made up for it. And in their defense, the discrimination... More

We went to ride the cog-railway on june 4th.Due to windy conditions our trip was cut short to 3/4th way. In this modern age of bullet trains,it was nice to take a trip on a cog-rail,chugging slowly along on a incline of 30 degrees or more. Try taking a snap of yours while the train is climbing the incline without... More

This cog railway has been in operation since 1869, and the history behind the railway is fascinating. The views are breathtaking, and the brakeman had some funny and interesting stories for the group as we headed up the mountain. At the top, we had a brief view of the surrounding valleys and mountains before the clouds rolled in. Overall, a... More

We went yesterday for the first time. Our GPS found it perfectly - we used the coordinates given on the website in the coordinates section of our GPS. We took the train up the mountain. Both of my sons wish they had hiked up. We enjoyed the summit. We purchased gifts from both stores, but I liked the station store... More

We visited on an overcast day, it was the only day we had to make the visit, so we decided to go anyway. There was a dense fog down at the bottom where you boarded the cog and visibility was very poor. In fact you could only see about 10 feet to either side of the car. Our brakeman was... More

The railway was located about 6 miles off US 302 over a well-signed and unevenly paved road. Parking was in a large compact-dirt lot. Early on a clear crisp fall day, for $66 per adult ticket, an antique steam locomotive pushed our railroad car along steep railroad tracks and up a 3-mile-long trestle to Mount Washington’s 6,288-foot summit. During our... More

Loved the train ride up the mountain! It was rainy but, almost all of the trail was visible - except for very top. The break-man was great with fun facts and history of the trail. They had a spotty audio recording going both ways, but the break-men did a better job. Loved their personality!

My wife and I visited Mt Washington during our recent vacation at the White Mountains. We had wanted to drive but the auto road up to the summit was closed and took the cog rail instead. On what was a perfect day, 70’s and cloud free, the trip soon turned into a huge disappointment despite paying $128. The staff at... More

What a hoot! What was once considered a laughable idea by some and an impossible feat by others, now provides visitors an experience of a lifetime – one to add to your “bucket list”. For more than a century, the Mt. Washington Cog Railway has climbed the tallest mountain in the Northeast, experienced the world’s worst weather and persevered through... More

As the cog train carries you higher & higher, up the increasingly steep track, over high and turning trestles, you begin to realize why this railway is a feat of engineering. You are not only on a historic trip, riding on the first cog railway; you are also climbing above the treeline into the clouds to a place of spectacular... More
