I love Mt. Chocorua, but any guide that tells you a trail is "easy to moderate" is lying. Getting to the top is "moderate to hard"--and pretty hard near the top--whichever way you go!

We've done many, many hikes and this is, by far, our favorite. We took our border collie with us. What a trooper he was! He scrambled up steep granite cliffs like he had glue on his feet. It's a moderately tough hike but, if the weather is good, it's about as perfect a hike as you'll ever take!

This is a moderate hike up a well maintained trail. On a sunny day you can see for miles and the view alone makes the climb well worth it, Be sure and pack plenty of water and snacks as there are no facilities at either end, If you want to up the pace and can handle a harder climb (we... More

I hiked to the peak of Mount Chocorua this fall with my children, ages 12 and 7. They both love hiking and were excited for it, so even though it was three hours up and two hours down, they had a blast! The trail was well marked and easy to follow, but it was definitely a workout! The views of... More

We took our two boys hiking on Mount Chocorua recently. We were joined by another family who had three sons. So between the two families, we had five boys from age 5 - 11. All the boys made it up to the top without much struggle. I was quite surprised at the rocky climb at the end...but well worth it... More

Popular mountain, but worth the hike for views going up and at the top. Ample parking. We took the Champney Falls Trail up and back, using the Champney Falls Loop in the way down. The Loop was muddy from recent rains and lots of people tracking through. Good steep hike with nice views; well marked. Trail narrow in places, which... More

I've hiked Mt. Chocorua many times through the years as a kid and later as an adult. It's a great hike for all ages, but it is a good amount of work. The trail is very rocky for much of the hike and it is a lot like climbing stairs the entire way up. There is some amount of shimmying... More
