I cannot understand why this beach is called Poverty Beach. It must have something to do with a history I don't know about. The houses near here are immense. I entered the beach at the very end of Beach Avenue, where Wilmington Avenue turns inland. I was there early in the morning on a windy day - I was alone... More

The sand is white, warm and ideal for any beach activity! Ideal weather to visit this beach will be from May onwards. Carry a jacket, if its windy, it might be cold!

This is considered on of Cape May's most desired beaches. It is much more desolate and pristine than many of the other public beaches and very pretty!

Poverty is one of the two natural beach areas. It has a 100 yd deep beach with a view of the Cape May Inlet in the distance. Great walking beach and good stripper fishing area.

This is one of the best beaches in Cape May, because it is not right in the center of town and kind of secluded, so it's not as busy as the other beaches.

Less crowded that other Cape May beaches, lovely views and this year much cleaner, nicer sand. A beautiful place to take a long beach walk.

There are a lot of beautiful homes, new and old, in this area of town. Lovely B&Bs and elegant restaurants. We've eaten at Pier House a couple of times, and the food is always great. Also had dinner at the fancy and famous Peter Shields restaurant, which was quite divine! There's no boardwalk in the area, so the beach is... More

Poverty Beach is a great place to plunk down your chair, drink your coffee and witness the miracle of the ocean! If you're looking to swim and have the kiddies in the water, then please, for everyone's safety, go to the regular beach in the center of town. Poverty Beach is way rougher and drops off unexpectedly in certain places,... More

Poverty beach is located on the east end of Cape May. The beach here is less crowded because it's away from most of the hotels. You can also always find easy and free parking. It can be rough, though, and there are a lot of shells. It's not good for boogie boarding because there's usually a steep drop off point... More
