Highly recommended to visit if you're on a winery tour in Somerset West. Its much more than a vinyard & winery. The stately mansions in Cape Dutch architecture, grand gardens and magnificent ancient oak & camphor trees are attractions themselves. The 300-year old homestead mansion of the former owners is now a museum open to visitors, with the old furniture,... More

Wonderful gourmet picnic in the enchanted forest. Beautiful spot with table and chairs set among huge camphor trees. Kids received their own picnic lunch and blanket. A lovely touch was that a sweet treat was hidden in a nearby tree stump for the kids to discover with a treasure map! Expansive grounds to explore and a great playground, too. Kids... More

Vergelegen is a beautiful place with shady walks in the gardens and woods. It has historical buildings, restaurants and wine tasting. Most important for people with young children is that they have recently built a new children's play area with a slide, swings, bridges and ladders all set on a rubberised surface that is very safe. A lot of the... More

Let me start by saying that Vergelegen (the property itself) is a wonderful addition to a day out in the Somerset West area. The farm is enormous and offers a tremendous variety of activities from walks to historical sites such as the Manor house, the camphor forest and the library. One can spend hours just strolling around the immaculately maintained... More

Welcomed from the word go with a Seniors/Scholars ticket which came with the wish that the scholars enjoyed their visit! A beautiful old wine farm, with much to see and helpful staff. The beautiful Cape Dutch homestead, open to view with furniture collection, yellowwood floors and paintings, is set in an octagonal walled garden with roses and statues. Also worth... More

Lovely to step back in time when visiting the old homestead and grand gardens. The modern additions are also good with great food and service at the Stables.

Worth visiting for a number of reasons. Firstly the scenery and gardens - truly beautiful. See the magnificent giant camphor trees (National monuments since1942) The library and the Manor house. The coffee shop with coffees from all over the world and of course the resident artist with his quirky calenders and kiddies books. Oh yes of course they also make... More

Went for a wine tasting, which was great, both in quality of the wines and in the professional service. Then walked around the beautiful gardens, and after realizing we had worked up an appetite went for a wonderful light lunch at the stables. Turned out to be a really nice 3 hour highlight on our short wine route tour

We spent a few hours exploring Vergelegen, and despite crossing paths with a group of Japanese visitors and their characteristic frenetic approach, found the rest of the time a peaceful, relaxing, and enjoyable afternoon. The grounds ooze calm and relaxation, the buildings are beautifully maintained, and a joy to the eye with the exposed wooden beams and floors. Staffed by... More

I loved our recent visit to Vergelegen. We had a delicious lunch at the Stables restaurant and spent the afternoon exploring the beautiful gardens and visiting the restored buildings. The entrance fee is really not that bad considering how big the estate is and the amount of upkeep that must go into maintaining it. A great place to visit!
