I highly recommend the short detour to the Chimayo Sanctuary. The whole compound has remained quite authentic and mostly unspoiled. The sanctuary is quiet and infused with simple spirituality. I enjoyed the child-like depictions and folk art. Take home some holy soil or just enjoy the intact 19th century adobe architecture before you leave New Mexico.
