This was one of our first stops for this trip to Taos. We had read about the Home & Museum, but had not had time to actually go through it before. It was a visit to a beautiful home that highlighted a unique family.

Been to this house/museum several times. Home of the Blumenschein family - early Taos artists who were influential in creating Taos as an art colony. Really nice sense of early 20th century Taos life. All original furnishings.
We really enjoyed this museum - richly furnished with period furniture and art of this couple; insights into the history of Taos and the art community that lived here. We read nearly every interpretive sign to follow the lives and artistic development of these two artists. Fun and educational.
The history of this house is fascinating, and was the home of two famous artists, plus the place where other Taos artists gathered. The furniture in the house is original. It takes about 45 minutes to go through the house if you are on a tight schedule, and if not, probably 60-75 minutes.
It is interesting, but not much in the way of the family's art inside. Knowledgable docents though.Outside, the garden is pretty, a small gift shop as you enter.
When the artist Blumenschein began creating a home here almost a century ago the building was already over 100 years old. It was an adobe creation that he lived in with his artist wife Mary Green. I had admired some of their work already so we definitely wanted to see this house. Their artist daughter also lived in it for...

Blumenschein's daughter, who was also a talented artist, donated the home and all contents to the museum. It is so interesting to see all the books in the library, cooking utensils and appliances in the kitchen, and original furnishings and quilts on the beds. You can almost imagine the stories told around the fireplace on cold, winter nights, as you...

Traditional NM adobe. Nice exhibits of art and about the Blumenschein family.
This museum did a good job of teaching me a bit of the history of Taos as an artists' retreat. It was focused on the life of the Blumenscheins and not overwhelming.
We almost didn't go to this museum, but I am so glad we did. I was facinated by the history of Taos and the amazing artists who called the community home. I also really liked the exhibit on the women of Taos. Definitely don't skip this one! Also, make sure you bu the museum pass to let you in all...
