If you are riding by enroute stop and take a peek, but don't make a special trip. It's informative but looking at three horses in the distance in a pen is not very interesting.

Good for the ponies, not as good for you. Worth a stop; but take your binoculars because the ponies stay near the back and it is quite large so they are hard to see.

Not much here, but worth seeing the "wild ponies" in the pen. A good excuse to let the kids out of the car!

This was a very pretty place the walkway is just beautiful love the trees but almost felt unsafe and the boardwalk towards the end is coming apart and lifts up some, so watch it. the ponys were very pretty and seemed to be well maintained.

The ponies can be far away. I have a small, black dog. The ponies love her and when they see her, they come to the fence.

Sometimes the ponys are visible, and sometimes not. In the summer it is very hot, and the insects terrible. It is on the main road from Ocracoke to the Hatteras Island Ferry, so stop for a moment, you might get lucky and see a pony.

I'm a local (Down East Carteret County). Want to see real wild ponies? Go further south (take the Ocracoke/Cedar Island Ferry and then take the small, daily ferry out of Beaufort, NC - which doesn't run in the winter) and see the REAL wild ponies on Carrot Island or Shackleford Banks (been there since the 1600's).

The first day we went, there were not many horses out. It was still a cool experience though. A few days later, we stopped back by and there were MANY horses out eating. We were able to get a lot of good pictures!

Very interesting that these ponies are descendants of the Spanish horses from the 16th century. Not much to see here, though, nobody to ask questions of. Still worth a quick look!
