I participated in a steam charter on the Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad (OCSR). Power was McCloud River Railroad 25, 2-6-2 (ALCO Schenectady 66435 / 1925). Our train departed Garibaldi, Oregon at 7:00 AM, traveling north and east on the former Southern Pacific Tillamook Branch to Salmonberry: the confluence of the Nahelam and Salmonberry Rivers, the site of a washout in... This roundtrip is a wonderful Steam Train excursion. It may not be very far but is typical of most Steam Train trips around the country. We do not have 3+ hours to devote to longer trips and it would be a lot more expensive to do so . The cost is in the fuel it takes to run these Steam... More

I wouldn't say it's very scenic and for the price, we wouldn't do it again. It takes you into rockaway beach which has little shops, but harldy any options for food or sweets. We traveled with two seniors, and a small child and it logistically was a bit uncomfortable to get seated by each other. If you weren't fast enough... More

Saturday took the Valentine Dinner Train which left Garibaldi at 4p.m. Very comfortable chairs, great food and wonderful views of Tillamook Bay on the 3 hour round trip. Staff were terrific and the conductor was more than happy to answer questions as we travelled along. Saw bald eagles, herons and the scenery is beautiful.

Trees and forest great. But lots of rain took away many opportunities for great photos. Get off US 101 and take the coastal road down to and through Oceanside. It is wonderful and has great rain forests like ambience.

You have to take the Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad if its running the days you are there. Its a short 1 hour trip along the coast but fun. We saw bald eagles high in the trees on our trip along with lots of shore birds. Very natural.

When we originally looked into taking a trip on the railroad I was under the impression that it left Garibaldi and went up to Wheeler. It doesn't, it goes from Garibaldi to Rockaway Beach which is 4 miles down the road. For $16.00 a person this is ridiculous! Been there, done that, ain't doin it again.

Went on the final dinner train for 2012. Been in Oregon on vacation for the last nine days. Last Saturday night did the Mt. Hood dinner train. All in all a nice trip and very good food and service. The Oregon Scenic dinner train really has its act together. The rail equipment is mostly 1950's era, the dinner was very good... More

Wonderful ride along the coast from Garibaldi to Rockaway. Had just enough time to check out a local store and purchase an ice cream cone. recommend for all ages.

This is a fantastic ride along Tillamook Bay between Garibaldi, Oregon and Rockaway Beach. There is a choice between riding inside a restored Pullman Coach Car, Covered Open Car, or Open Car. The excursion goes past a quaint old fishing wharf, Tillamook Bay sites, and Ocean and Lake views. May even catch a glimpse of Seal, Blue Heron, and an... More
