We stopped here while in town and enjoy this immensly. It was very informative for the entire family. They had just received an octopus the day before we came here and he was very active in his aquarium. Recommend for all ages.

I used to take my son here many years ago( as in 30+years). I thought it was terrific then and I still do today. Lots of school kids there when we visited which was fun. While some things are the same they keep it interesting and current.

They should really tell you in advance that 1/2 the exhibits were under construction. Took us just under an hour to get through TWICE to make sure we actually saw everything....made me sad as we are visiting from CA and read the reviews but we were ultimately a little disappointed. They have a section of the Japanesse dock that landed on the shore of Newport on display. This is a huge center that has many exhibits, and is organized via topics: i.e. tsunami, local waters, underwater research, climate, etc. A great place to spend an hour or two.

We knew this would be educational, but were pleasantly surprised that it not just, totally child oriented. My husband and I had a great time there. It was well worth the price of admission.

Hatfield Marine Science Center is one of the premier ocean research institutes in the world and, fortunately, most of what it does is readily available to the public through its aquarium and research exhibits. We always love stopping here when we can. It's great getting to watch the octopus up close. During this particular visit, the octopus was extremely active.
