Sauvie Island (pronounced "Sophie's" Island by locals) is a diked-in farm, wildlife and sporting area just below the confluence of the Willamette and Columbia Rivers. Once subject to spring flooding, it now produces a tremendous amount of fresh produce for the Portland metro area. Its a great place to go to see wildlife, or just spend some time in a... More

Definitely worth the visit; great for kids, out of towners, even locals! Easy access to Portland, and NW Oregon. Farm fresh foods too!

It's ok, but not worth the long drive. The pumpkin patch is actually a lot more interesting than the 'clothing optional' part of the beach.

If you like farmer's markets and farms, this is darling place, just beyond Portland, where you can revel in the agrarian lifestyle. Pumpkin patches in the fall, and lots of U-pick opportunities, as well as solitude (during the week) with lots of picturesque scenery.

Sauvie's is beautiful year-round. We prefer harvest time, enjoying the produce stalls at the farms, and choosing our pumpkins for Halloween. We also go do u-pick everything during the summer, the kids love it as much as I do.

Rural area near Portland. There is a rocky beach to walk to that borders the shipping lanes and you almost can touch the passing big boats (check shipping calendars to make sure you get to see one). Clothing optional on some of these beaches but in most of year just walk along bundled up.

we spend way too little time there, due to a schedule, and will return for more exploration. I brought home a gorgeous bouquet of flowers from a farmstand.

If you like the rustic feel of agriculture and the natural outdoors Sauvie Island is the place. We spend a good deal of time there during the season picking organic berry's peaches, and more and before we head home we take time for a stroll in their Wildlife area... we always see something interesting.

The island is wonderful - great produce markets, nice beaches, good birding areas, some of which are remarkable during the fly-over and in the winter, and a really nice place to bike or take a walk. Parking can be difficult, and you need a permit, but it's worth the trouble. It's a beautiful, peaceful place to spend the day. But... More

You do have to pay for a parking permit, but it is easy to spend the day on the island. Several direct from the farm stores, seasonal fruits, vegitables, flowers. Great for pumpkins and apples in the fall. Beaches on the Columbia river. Eagles can be seen. Kayaking is good, too.
