At the welcome center the young man who took our admission payment said that his favorite was the ridge trail. He said it would take us about 40 minutes. Very nice facilit thathas great walking trails through natural environment of Aquidneck Island, culminating in a nice overlook of Second Beach. A nice example of how Aquidneck Island used to be.

Bring your binoculars and camera. Relaxing experience. Walk the trails, look at the wildlife. PS check yourself for ticks.

Having lived in Newport, I was a regular visitor at the Sanctuary. I have a yearly membership fee, but you can hike the property for a small fee (it used to be $5). Paying the fee goes toward a GREAT cause--the environment!

The Norman Bird Sanctuary is right next to Second Beach in Middletown. The hike up to Hanging Rock is nothing short of spectacular, the sanctuary itself is home to a variety of birds and wildlife. There are many trails you can take. We went down a few and crossed over to another. Hanging Rock was beautiful. Great Exercise. Very small fee allows you to go back again and again.
