We were here after 5pm and strolled the street virtually to ourselves. There are pro's and con's to this. Some place may have been closed (we didn't notice) but we got to see the town without throngs of tourists. This worked out well for what we like, but I bet it's pretty cool when it's crowded as well. Beautiful downtown... More

Lots of the old buildings have been refurbished and have your usual tourist shops and many casinos in them. with the little old fashioned trolley car on wheels running around it was like being back in time!

We spent a few hours here. Its a nice ride from sturgis and a good place to stop off and grab some food and check out the history. Only thing is parking can be a huge pain.

Visiting Deadwood, SD is like stepping back to the 1800's and living there. The exterior architecture is much like it was when the town was in its prime. However, the stores are not. There are more casinos in this town than people I think. There are gift shops, restaurants and casinos in the structures now.

Early February 2013 and my wife and I are walking the historic streets of Deadwood looking at the old buildings especially the 2nd floor on what I believe was the west side , Cute models in the windows looks like it did in the old west days when the call girls were busy, Having just a light jacket was just... We visited historic Deadwood on a bright and comfortable winter day: no snow, no heavy coats, no people. We could walk in and out of beautiful old buildings to our hearts content, taking in the sights and sounds. We were able to stand in the middle of the main street to take pictures, not a car in sight. Most places... More

It's a very cool walk around the little town. You have to go in the buildings to really see the old character. The casinos are a major distraction, but still worth the time. It would be far better without the casinos, but that is the reason the town is there now so what can you do. Great place for a... More

I had so much fun walking around downtown. Several old buildings are casinos now but they have made a point to preserve the Historic feel on Deadwood.

The buildings in the old town are reminiscent of the buildings seen in western movies, not a high rise to be seen. Feels like you have stepped back in time.

To me, Deadwood rivals our visits to Virginia City, Nevada as an old west town that still maintains that place in time. Strolls up and down Main Street offer many photo opportunities of the buildings which give the Old Town it's claim to importance. There are the usual touristy gift shops and casinos which smell your money, but they can... More
