Established in 1807, this home-site tells the history of the Harding and Jackson families and the impact that they had on the city of Nashville and, more importantly, their indelible contribution to the development of thoroughbred racing horses in the United States. Belle Meade was revered as the greatest thoroughbred stud farm in the United States in the 1880s and 1890s and was home to Iroquois (the first US-bred horse to win the Epsom Derby) and Bonnie Scotland (whose bloodline includes Secretariat, Seattle Slew, Native Dancer, Big Brown and I'll Have Another, to name a few). Beyond thoroughbred horses, this history also encompasses the Antebellum South, slavery, the Civil War, emancipation and reconstruction, and was the home of Civil War Generals William Giles Harding and William Hicks Jackson, as well as national statesmen including US Supreme Court Justice Howell E. Jackson, US Secretary of War Jacob Dickinson and US Senator Luke Lea. « less

We've been to Belle Meade twice in the last year and ordered the Blackberry wine online as well. It's enough just to walk around the grounds and see the gorgeous Magnolia trees and all the buildings. We thought the tour was very informative. Can't wait to get back!

Well preserved place the house is neat but grounds and outbuildings really tell the story. The carriage house is especially neat.

We loved this spot. The grounds are gorgeous. The size of the holly bushes in front of the mansion were enormous. The tour was really good. We enjoyed learning about the old stud farm and horses with history to the plantation. The free wine tasting at the end of the tour was nice enough that we bought 2 bottles. Proceeds... More

We thoroughly enjoyed our tour of this beautiful house and it's unbelievable furnishings. I do wish they would limit the size of the tour group though. Sometimes we barely fit into the room, making it difficult to even see what our guide was talking about. Our guide was very knowledgeable and friendly but the tour was over an hour long... More

Interesting tour of an old plantation, but skip the wine tasting at the end (the wine was sweet and pretty awful). A little too theatrical a guided tour for my taste.

i found this very interesting and informative. I learned many things about Nashville history. The wine tasting was an added bonus. I thought it was a good value for the money. The senior discount was an added bonus for my relatives

The belle Meade plantation was lovely, the tour guide we had was very enthusiastic and knew a lot of the local history aswell which made the tour much more informative and she bought the mansion alive. Was a bit disappointing that pictures could not be taken inside the mansion as would be lovely to show people back home who won't... More

We'll worth the price of admission. Linda our tour guide was superb. The house is beautiful and the history of the horses quite impressive.

We had a great deal on a mansion tour and wine tasting, so made an outing of it with friends. We toured the grounds while waiting our turn for the house tour. Beautifully landscaped and easy to walk. The house tour started out great. Our tour guide, Miss June, was doing a really nice job, telling about the house, how... More

My Mom and I were looking for something to do while in Nashville and happened upon a hotel brochure with this as a suggested highlight of the city. We both found it very informative. I would definitely suggest this as it paints a realistic picture of life back then, as well as shining a light on the history of Nashville.
