Awesome trails, nice volunteers at the Nature Center, beach, boat launch, picnic areas....all very well kept. A naturally beautiful site made better by the park service. We would highly recommend to those wanting to get outside - just an hour drive from Houston, but it seems a world away!
My husband, 9 friends and I spent the weekend (2 nights) in Huntsville State Park 4/26-4/28. My husband and I arrived early 2:30 on Friday to ensure we got two side by side camping sites and on the water edge. We got sites 102 and 104. Both sites were large, had a picnic table and fire ring with grill. The...

Although the parking lot is always full, as is the day use picnic area; the trails are empty. Great fast, fun trails. Lots of shade too. Always try to go at least once a month.
This is one of the places my husband and I like to disappear to when we have a couple days off. They have a lot of campsites overlooking the lake and quite a few trails to hike. The park and restrooms are extremely well maintained. There is a lot of wild life to remind you why its nice to escape...

They seemed a bit larger and, more importantly, the fire rings were closer to the picnic table. The site where I stayed had a large concrete picnic table which...

Huntsville State Park is in Sam Houston National Forest and part of the Piney Woods area of East Texas. Lake Raven is a small man made lake and the camping areas of the park wrap around the lake. It's not a great fishing lake but there are bass, catfish, sunfish, etc. that can be caught here. Be aware that there...

I have been going there since I was a kid. I don't think much has changed. This is a great place to have fun as a kid or adult - swimming, camping, fishing (watch out for gators), and enjoying nature.
Do not miss the chance to get off of I-45 and talk a walk through Huntsville State Park. You will not be disappointed. It is very scenic.
