This is a real find in Vermont where the art scene is saturated with nature scenes and covered bridges and contemporary art is rare. The Institute features beautiful modern art at accessible prices. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. It is worth a stop en route to Okemo, or as a destination on its own. Enjoy!

Who would have thought, you would find such remarkable contemporary art, in the quaint little town of Chester, Vermont. Driving down Route 11 you are greeted by the rising sun that sits atop their building. He beacons you inside of what was once the old Legion Hall (I believe that is what they told me), which stood empty for years.... More

This space is worth stopping to see if only for the beautiful finishes they employed in building it. Gorgeous black walnut floors, unusual and beautiful light sconces made of sculpted banana fiber paper (I want them!), and a counter that has to be seen to be believed (courtesy of Barre Pinske, wood-worker extraordinaire also worth a visit --don't be put... Really awesome showcase of artwork. We were drawn to a sumo wrestler sculpture that had a surface texture of camouflage .

On a road trip from the midwest to the east coast and back, I got a little lost on SUNDAY and left the freeway to get my bearings. Thank goodness I did! Driving through town, I noticed this beautiful artsy building and just HOPED it was open. It WAS! Don't miss the opportunity to take this detour, if you hadn't... More

we happened upon this place totally by lucked we were touring the area from Grafton to Woodstock in March. Suddenly we saw a terrific carved gold sun face on a building and I had to stop! We were greated by a charming hostess, who's explained that the gallery rotates exhibits, and the work was top notch. At the time they... More

Penny and I have recently had the opportunity to tour the site and LOVED it. You simply can't drive through Chester without checking out this precious asset to the region. Contemporary Art at its best in the HUB of South Central Vermont, Chester. Just a short walk from Inn Victoria, this very special institute will benefit the region and YOU!
