This course is always in great condition; this time of year it is exceptional. Has an excellent practice facility, but that is reserved for the UVa. Golf team in season. Very challenging course, but with multiple tees you can still have fun with a mixed group.

This course is terrific. The practice facility (the UVA team's home course) is on par with any top end resort. It has a private club feel. The views are great and the course is challenging but not unfair.

Got to play here, recently and loved the course. The folks in the pro shop were very friendly and accomodating. I played as a single and was paired with two guys from Baltimore. We had a great time together. The course is laid out over very rolling terrain and the blue tees are all you could ask for. The par... More

I have played Birdwood about 6 or 7 times over the last 10 years or so, and nearly always found it in good or even excellent shape. And it IS a beautiful golf course, especially the back 9. But I played it on August 28th, 2012 (during a VSGA tournament, no less), and was overall disappointed. Greens were merely decent,... More

The front nine seemed like a different course than the back nine. I shot lights out on the front nine. On the back, well... Note that the back nine are much more hilly than the front. So, I recommend concentrating on put the ball in a flat spot. I wish I had been more consistent in doing so!!

Birdwood has been around for a long time but I had not had the chance to play it until last weekend. The course enjoys a well-deserved reputation for a fair, challenging, and well-maintained layout. The course is walkable although some holes have pretty good hikes between greens and tees. In keeping with old line Virginia, the course can be classified... More

Great course, great staff, great atmosphere. I expected the UVA/Boar's Head environment to be very stuffy but everyone was friendly and welcoming. Ask Ace, the starter, for a history and geography lesson.

if you like level greens, look elsewhere. This gem rolls through piedmont country with lots of elevation changes, water hazards and risk reward dog legs. Not the longest course, but nearly every hole is a delight for the eyes and a challenge to your game.

This has become a damn difficult track. Greens are Augusta slick and the roughs demand a wedge or so just to get out of--so don't get in them. The fees are too high for the layout--it is a good golf course, but not a great one.
