I myself love history where ever i go for vacation. i to check out the very 1st lighthouse was really cool. Since it is on an active military base they have to inspect your vehicle, which can be a little bit of a hastle depending on when you visit. but i understand completely why they do it. it is a... Another fun place in Virginia Beach that is off the beaten path. This is another place that is near a major road and populated area that is forgotten by many. There are two lighthouses next each other. The Old Cape Henry Lighthouse was one of the original lighthouses commissioned in the early days of our country. In the late 1700's... More

This was a very nice attraction but little kids can't climb the steps if they are not a certain height. apparently it's an insurance thing so somebody had to stay behind with the little ones or not go at all. Otherwise, the staff was very nice and it was a beautiful view!

Still very nice, but I grew up near there and it was free. Now there's a fee to enter and you must sign a waiver, absolving everyone of any responsibility if you're injured.

This lighthouse has just over 100 steps but many of them are outside. The new lighthouse that you cannot tour, can be seen from the top of the old one. We got some really great photos here and we weren't winded when we reached the top. I also got my lighthouse passport stamped here!

Entry through a military base was quite an adventure, really nice guys who check your car and paperwork though. Couldn't help thinking how accommodating to go to all of that effort just to let us visit the lighthouse, surprised they allow it really. The lighthouse is great, lots of steps, challenging in places to get to get to the top,... More

A little bit of a chore getting on the base but I certainly understand the need for security and we were on our way in no time. The lighthouse is beautiful and, for a small fee, my husband and I were able to walk up all 191 steps to the top. We were rewarded with beautiful views all around.

Was a very educational visit if you read all the little signs as there isn't a tour. Excellent view at the top of the lighthouse for pictures of the bay. The 191 steps will give you a workout. Nice gift shop too.

I went there 30 years ago and 6 years ago. The gift shop was real nice. I went up the stairs it 30 years ago.

I went on a Chesapeake Bay lighthouse tour and got to see Cape Henry Lighthouse from the water. Rough boat ride due to storms but loved it anyway.
