This is a marvelous place to take a stroll. It can be reached from downtown via the Railroad trail. In the summer time it is a wonderful way to spend the day.
We live close to this park and walk/ride the trails often. The stately Douglas Firs, cascading creek,waterfalls, bird watching, and fish hatchery creates enough interest for everyone. When you feel like you need a respite from the city of subdued excitement, take a serene walk in Whatcom Falls.
While I tend to spend a majority of my time in this park on the West End (by Bayview Cemetery) because of their offleash dog walking area, my kids enjoy going to the duck pond and giving them crusts of bread or playing on either of the two kids play areas (toddler & bigger kid area) as well as playing... I am so happy to live within walking distance of this park. It's where I always want visitors to Bellingham to see. The trails are a wonderful exploration, the fishery is fun for all ages, beautiful any season.
I played in this park as a kid and when we moved to California I pinned for it. We moved back 25 years ago and it just as good now, It has several water falls and miles of trails, there is fish hatcher that you can visit, Swimming during the summer, some people dive off the cliffs into the pools.... Great natural park to walk, jog or cycle. Each season brings it's own flavour. Many different routes to take. The falls are a great photo opportunity. The 'lagoon' takes some beating for natural beauty. Play basketball or tennis. Watch people fish in the pond or take a look at the fish farm. There's a playground and toilets and free parking.... It's a very pretty place to walk.on the trails.there is a play area and basketball court.there is a fish raising area where they release the baby fish into the river also.
Whatcom Falls Park is great and has a bit of something for everyone. There is an upper and a lower parking lot. I love this park. There are lots if trails, ducks to feed, a fishing hole and beatiful water falls!..............
The falls are beautiful and there are great trails to walk on along the river. There is also a fish hatchery on the property with big ponds of fish, fun for the kids to see.
