When you are here you would never know you are only a couple miles from the center of Charleston. Many picnic areas, hiking and bike trails, camping and other activities. Well worth the time to go. No cell service if on Verizon.

Everyone we encountered was friendly and was happy to share points of interest in the park and in the immediate surroundings.

Maybe I shouldn't write this because we didn't spend much time here, maybe an hour and a half to take a walk and get outside. But from seeing what is available on the park map, it certainly does not rate with the best W Va state parks. But given its proximity to Charleston, its nice to have the opportunity to... More

Kanawha State Forest offers many great hiking trails. Lots of people come here to mountain bike as well. It's close to Charleston but seems far away from the city. Lots of picnic areas, there's a small dam/lake where many people fish, great camping spots are available - very nice area to enjoy the great outdoors!

We were in Charleston for the Frozen Sasquatch 50K trail run in the forest. It is a beautiful park with lots of great hiking trails and picnic areas.

Kanawha State Forest is more like a State Park with 9300 acres of forest just seven miles from Charleston. In the camping area there are two bath houses one of which has laundry facilities. 25 of the sites have both 20 amp electric and water. The other 21 have neither. Many of the sites are private and Ymost are under... More

West Virginia takes great pride and care of its natural areas, including state parks and forests. Highly recommend this area for birding, nature walks, or just an outing to get fresh air.

I'm annoyed that Trip Advisor is making me do these reviews now. Glad this one is at least 50 characters!
