We vacationed in Hayward for 20 years before retiring and moving here full time. Honestly, we never visited Wilderness Walk during those years because we were too busy playing at the lake! But now that we live here and have a myriad of visitors of all ages, it has become a pleasant routine to take the grandchildren. Each year, as... More

Hayward`s own little zoo. This is a nice place to take the kids to see what animals are found in the Northwoods. It is very interesting and relaxing for the adults as well. You can intersact with the animals. Fun time.

I was there as a kid when my grandparents had a trailer on Lake Nelson, now, 30 years later, I brought my wife and daughter. They loved it. It was just like i remembered it!! My daughter had a wonderful time. This place is a treat. It may be a "tourist trap", but who cares? It is fun. Pan for... More

Great park to walk around and see animals close up. What the kids really like is the free roaming tame deer, birds, etc who will come right up to you. Recommend the park for families with young kids 10 and under.

Loved the whole thing was a great way to spend the morning! Feeding the small animals was just awesome... seeing a nasty real coyote was scary and makes you understand how wild animals really are! Great place to take pictures of you family!

The Wilderness Walk was a must do when we were in Hayward and my kids were younger. Now they take their children there. Feeding the young animals and playing in the old west town are their favorites

I have been going to Wilderness Walk since I was a child (almost 40 yrs now!). Due to the great memories I then took my son, nephew, and just took my 16 month granddaughter for her first visit. Needless to say, just like the rest of us before her, she loved it! She loved the petting area and her reactions... More

We really enjoyed the wilderness walk. We have two young kids, ages 5 and 1 and they loved see all the animals up close and getting to feed many of them. I really like that you get to walk through paths at your own pace. Makes it so much easier with kids. So many animals to see. The free running... More

This was the best activity we found in Hayward for the kids. I only wish I had a video of our reaction when a big buck walked up to the 3 foot fence and jumped over it a few feet from us. We didnt realize that he was one of the deer that walk around the park.
