Every trip to La Crosse must include a trip to the beautiful overlook of Grandads Bluff. You can see for miles or just look down over the city of La Crosse. Make sure to have a burger and a beverage at the Alpine Inn while you are at it.

There's a cool shelter here with a fireplace on either end that would be a great place for a party! The view is like flying low in a plane...straight down. No trails, so that's a bummer. Still enjoyed the short time we spent there.
The drive up was a treat but once you get out of your car, be prepared to be awed by the view. This is one stop you have to make when in La Crosse.

Glad we took the time to drive up to Grandad Bluff as we traveled through LaCrosse. The view is spectacular! We were there in late winter with a strong cold wind blowing, but it was still one of our favorite stops on a trip to Minnesota. A bonus was the bald eagle that flew by, just below the cliff edge.
We just loved the Grandad Bluff even in the winter its Bueautiful . Cant wait to go back in the Fall !!
LaCrosse is a gorgeous town. I grew up here and when I come home I am a dangerous driver as the beauty of LaCrosse distracts me from driving. Grandad's Bluff recently underwent a renovation to their viewing platform area, and now offers more unique vantage points to view the town of La Crosse. Absolutely beautiful to watch the sunset. My only wish would be that there be more trails to walk on instead of just only the overlook. Definitely worth checking out if you are a first-time visitor...

The entire city lies before you...two universities, lumber baron mansions on Cass St., the "blue bridge," French Island, the marshes, and, across the way, La Crescent, MN and the bluffs of the west bank. Few cities are blessed to have a vista such...
