The drive to/towards the beach is scenic. From Lanai city down the winding road towards the beach has views of Maui, Molokai and ultimately the beaches. Once parking at the end of the road, it is roughly a 5-10 minute walk depending on the path.

Note - having a 4x4 jeep or similar is ideal.

We were trying to determine if we could drive the entire road to the beach and answers on here and other places were unclear. When you look at Google maps it's hard to tell what is paved and what is not. So, the main, long road is paved and it will get you almost to the shoreline but not shipwreach beach. The pavement ends near the ocean and if you don't want to drive anymore, park by the abandoned cars. If you have a 4x4 you can just continue driving on the hard packed road to shipwreck beach. If you have a sedan it's a little more tricky. We had a Ford Fiesta and started on the hard-packed road. It was fine but about 1/4 mile in, there was a section that seemed impassable. Was it possible to maybe do it? Perhaps. But it wasn't worth it so we parked by an area that has a couple of old stages and hanging mooring balls. A higher sedan could have made it. The rest of the road seemed fine for the most part. It's your call. It's actually a nice walk so I would recommend not doing it in a sedan. When you get to the beach veer inland to the petroglyphs. There are some good vantage points to see the actual wreck near there as well. We didn't bother getting any closer. The beach itself is cute and small. It won't be crowded. This is the windier side of the island but it was not bad at all.

We rented a Jeep and drove to the area. WAZE works as a GPS on the island. After parking near the road and “parking area”we walked out on the soft sand and towards the wreckage. The shipwreck itself is unremarkable but the beach, clear water and secluded area made it an enjoyable outing. Some good shell hunting on the beach.

It is worth taking time to see something different. There is a nice beach 🏖 in the area. We went on a windy cool day, but we only rented a car for a day

From the parking area, it is a 1-mile walk along the shoreline to a good view of the WWII-era concrete tanker that the US Navy accidentally wrecked on the reef. While all of the cars we saw driving out to the beach were jeeps, you could navigate the dirt road in a sedan as long as the road is dry. On your way to the shipwreck, detour to the petroglyphs for a few paintings on the rocks of men and horses.

We saw a monk seal on the beach, which was cool. Even better, there was only one other person there, and we picked up a lot of shells, which doesn't really happen on beaches on the more populated islands.

This shipwreck makes for an intriguing drive and shoreline hike with beach combing opportunities. In the winter, swimming is not very appealing, but it’s worth the hour or so you devote to the trip and makes for a memorable highlight in a quite staid locale.

The sight of the shipwreck is interesting, the spearfishing in the area of the wreck is good but the beach is just okay. The beach at Menele Bay is much better.

Beautiful area. The shipwreck was awesome and so was the petroglyphs. It's worth walking along the beach aways to get a good view of the ship. Absolutely no one there - it was incredible.

After we drove the world's bumpiest road, we arrived at the beach. We were warned multiple times about the $500 towing fee if we got stuck so we parked the car when we encountered a stretch of road that was just sand. We walked on a ways along the beach and came around a point and could see the shipwreck multiple hundred yards away. Glad we saw it, but it is quite a drive getting there. My wife's watch told her she had walked 7000 steps when we arrived and over 6000 of those were from the ride down to the beach. Glad we did it, but wish we had saved the time to drive the Polaris ATV's instead.
