Sadly, the Lahaina Jodo Mission burnt and was lost on August 8, 2023 along with others in our beloved Lahaina.
The temple and its grounds are CLOSED until further notice. We appreciate visitors respect that the grounds are CLOSED and not open to the public at this time.
We are working hard to envision a future for our temple that will continue to serve our community and share our Buddhist values. Mahalo! Lahaina Jodo Mission

I came here during the OBON festival on July 1. It was awesome. Instead of spending hundreds of dollars on a boring luau I was able to enjoy Japanese party or even the shave ice was only two dollars. Highly recommend.

It’s right off the beach in Maui Gorgeous view. Right next to a Buddhist temple.
Small market with arts and crafts and small amount of foods to try and buy.

We stopped in here literally for 15 minutes to check it out before our Dinner cruise. It was a very nice surprise. So peaceful and the architecture is beautiful! If you are in the area, stop by and check it out, its worth a 1/2 hour of your time.

A peaceful site not many people seem to visit. We spent a pleasant 20 or 30 minutes walking around, admiring the architecture, the Buddha statue, and the bell, and learning about the history of the place. Next door is a Japanese cemetery that's being gradually swallowed by sand, which is interesting to walk through. A nice spot for a quiet moment or some sunset photography.

I would certainly make the time to visit here, even if it's just for 30 minutes before heading to Front Street. The architecture is amazing. Great photo ops!

Quiet and contemplative place for the visitor in a hectic tourist location that is Lahaina. Not certain of the history as the buildings
were closed when I visited these houses of worship and culture.

Jodo Mission is a delightful stop in Lahaina to see the Buddhist Temple complex comprising of a large Buddha statue, a Pagoda, a Temple, and a large Bell. The temple was closed when we visited, but we toured the rest of the beautiful complex. A family-friendly beach is adjacent to the Mission, but scenery-wise, there are much better ones in Maui. If interested in walking, there is a cemetery next to the Mission. The mission is a worthwhile stop indeed.

This is a small Buddist Temple with a large statue inside. It is to the north of downtown and you have to go out of your way to find it. Not on a main street so you need to find it on the map. There is no signage off front street to indicate where it is. But it is worth the search.
