Stopped many times at the area on the north side. Didn't know about the gift shop, cafe and other displays on the south side. It was nice to see another view. Weather was as expected very windy and chilly. We took Muni (bus) from Fisherman's wharf and it was a breeze.
can't blame the weather! Put it down to experience! I wish other travellers a better experience. What else can I say?

Make sure to either walk or ride a bike across the bridge. By doing either of these it gives you a good perspective of how long the bridge span is and how high above the water. We happened to walk over it on a non foggy day so we really enjoyed it. It is chilly and windy on the bridge so make sure you dress appropriately.
I walked over the bridge while doing a volksmarch (google it) from the presidio. Nice trail that took me over the bridge on a pretty nice day with sun and some haze in the background. I'm happy you can still walk across the bridge.

Mark Twain was right... the coldest winter I've ever spent was a summer in San Francisco. I loved coming to see the Golden Gate Bridge. It's such an iconic American locations but definitely bring a jacket because it's windy and cold!
