We hit awesome weather so enjoyed our trek even more (fairly flat ground). Great views of Alcatraz and the bridges. Enjoyed the history on this "Ellis Is. of the west" plus the remnants of two forts. took the ferry from tiburon for a quick 15 minute ride on a perfect sunny day. the island is beautiful, last ferry back left at 4:30 so unfortunately we did not have time to hike around the whole island but instead made our way to the immigration station immediately. very intersting site, don't miss! can't wait to return and explore... Was part of our Alcatraz ticket. Looking back would not waste the money. Superb views on a clear day, harbor is especially picturesque. Would have been better if we hiked around the island ourselves. The tram tour was a waste. Guide/tram driver knew absolutely nothing about the place ("I've been working here a week").

I was intrigued by this place and was thoroughly delighted with the tour. It was very informative and I learned a lot by taking this tour. I would recommend it to anyone visiting SFO.

We went to Angel Island with our Alcatraz Ticket. We expected to see a state park, we didn't expect to see such a nice historic landmark! Beautiful views, beautiful tour (even with rain, the bus-tour has rain-protection sides). The downside: we did hope for a little more time on the island for ourselves with the baby.

My daughter walked the perimeter of the island and stopped to tour the 'immigration station' museum and memorial to the hundreds of thousands of immigrants detained on the island. The memorial is very impressive. A beautiful place to visit and reflect upon history.
