An excellent look at artifacts and buildings from Gunnison's early years. My wife and I easily spent several hours touring the grounds and looking at all the exhibits. The volunteers on staff were very friendly and even gave us good advice on how to aclimate to the altitude. My only negative is that there isn't much of a narrative to... More

Captain John W. Gunnison entered this area of Colorado in 1853, heading an exploratory expedition. He found the area "agreeable and exhilarating..." Shortly afterwards, the expedition passed into Utah, where they were killed by the Utes. Gunnison Pioneer museum takes good three to four hours to go through and we only left because it started raining. It's not supported from... More

I spent an unexpected 2 hours here....having just stopped to stretch my legs from a long drive. There are several buildings that have been moved here along with a steam train, a WWII tank, and various historical articles. You can visit all of the buildings or just the ones that interest you. They have obviously collected articles from all over... More

This museum has several buildings with an extensive collection of everything imaginable from the 1800's on. Although the focus was (as expected) on the Gunnison area, the memorabilia, arifacts, clothing, tools, etc. represent a point in time that anyone from anywhere can relate to, particularly baby boomers and on, who used and/or are familiar with the items. The automobile collection was... More

This museum was better than we expected. Unfortunately, we thought it would be lame, so we didn't go until 1 hour before it closed. There is so much to see we could have easily spent 2-3 hours here.

We took the kids and went to this museum and loved it. The staff as so friendly and this place is amazing with I believe 21 buildings on the property to look through including a small church and school house. It was such a wonderful place to go well worth it if your in Gunnison.

This place is well worth the time and small admission fee. Amazing diverse collection of large and small items. Amazing museum that is in the middle of Colorado. A real gem. We wish we could have spent more time there. This is not a tourist rap money maker but rather some great folks who are committed to preserving the areas'... More

I have lived in Gunnison for the last 7 years and just now got around to visiting the Pioneer Museum, and I have to say WOW! The amount of Colorado history, mixed with true-grit American history is amazing. I could have spent twice as much time and still not been able to enjoy it all. The arrowhead collection is massive... We lived in the area for many years, before finally visiting the museum. Since then, we have taken many of our visitors. They have an amazing collection of so many things. Our favorite is the arrowhead and Indian artifacts in the main building. Plan to spend a couple of hours browsing through the many separate buildings.

A GREAT small town museum. I LOVE museums, especially small town museums. This is a wonderful historical treasure. Old Cars, phones, all kinds of items used in the settling of the town, many transported buildings. I went by myself because the wife and daughter were resting. Went back, got them, and took them to this place, and they had a... More
