This place is so beautiful and so tranquil, you forget you're still on Manhattan island! Even if you're not a fan of medieval art I think you'll love The Cloisters. The walk to The Cloisters is just as beautiful; a nice leisurely stroll with plenty of photo opportunities. Entry to the Cloisters also entitles you to same-day entry to The... More

You feel like you are in Europe somewhere without having left the city. It's best to catch the subway and not the bus (as we did) because it's much faster. There is some wonderful art and it is certainly different from the rest of Manhattan

Filled with monastic art in a monastery, the Cloisters really makes you feel like you're entering into a different age, and gives you a sense of the life of people in a monastery. I would have liked more of that—to see living quarters and all that—but still, the art is exciting. The unicorn tapestries are great, though it makes you... More

You wouldnt believe you were still in Manhattan. It's almost at the northern tip. a walk through Fort Tryon park is a nice way to get here. The admission prices at the cloisters are "suggested donations" which means you can pay anything you want. So, pay according to what you plan to get out of it. well kept cloister gardens... More

The displays are outstanding even if you don't think you like Medieval Art. The audio guide is extremely helpful and worth the additional cost. Even the cafe was able to process a whole group of teenagers quickly, so the rest of us could eat. However, if you check anything, DO NOT go down the stairs marked exit, particularly if you... More

Practically unique recreation of a monastery stuffed with medieval art and tapestries. If you are interested in that period, you can't miss this, you would probably want to spend the entire day soaking up the collection. The park and gardens nearby are also quite pretty. If your tastes don't run to the medieval then bypass this and stick with the... More

We were visiting friends in Hudson Heights and were looking for things to do while they were at work. They recommended the Cloisters. It was a pleasant surprise to find a French Abby in northern Manhattan. Had views of the Hudson River and the New Jersey palisades. It was very peaceful in the park but you have to be ready... More

The Cloisters is such an unexpected treat. A wonderful spot to get away from the city. Once inside, you almost have the feeling of being in Europe. Wonderful tapestries and vistas. We thoroughly enjoyed our visits there.

It is astounding to see this castle in the heart of New York City. There is art and collection of beautiful paintings and gardens to see with the view of the Hudson River. I like the feeling of being transported into medieval times right here in the City. One can either take the bus, the subway and walk to it... More

A New Yorker friend told me about this, and it remains one of my favourite NYC experiences and one of my favourite museums in the world. The guided tours are brilliant and the gardens around the museum are beautiful.
