This is a 'must visit' area. Travelers to California shouldn't overlook a trip to Death Valley. Worth a detour.

We did not realize how large the park was so definitely allow a few days if you want to see and explore many of the things it has to offer. Also, a larger car with four wheel drive is recommended for several of the places you may want to get to that are on dirt/gravel roads. Definitely a neat and...

If large open spaces freak you out, this is not the place for you. We loved it. Nothing like it in UK. Entered from the south which was a good move. We stopped by the side of the road to take in the huge view and once away from the car we experienced complete silence. There wasn't a breath of...

I wanted to go here simply because I had bread Scott Jurek's account of the Badwater 135. I was blown away by the sheer beauty of the landscape here. This is definitely a land of extremes, and my wife and I actually thought seeing Death Valley was the highlight of our trip to Las Vegas. We drove up to Dante's...

We visited Death Valley in May. The mornings were cool enough for touring, but we had a problem with gnats in the early morning. You may want to bring insect repellant.
Drove in from Las Vagas to Death Valley in April 2013. Hottest place on earth. Got to 103!
Self help permit kiosk doesn't take AMEX very easy to use prices $12/night/tent site
Permit for the park varies depending on length of stay, $20.00/car for week
Stocked up on supplies at the Walmart in Pahrump Nevada. Stovepipe Wells was a good...

If you are on vacation in the south west and pressed for time, I would only recommend Death Valley once you've ticked off all the other attractions in the area. Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon and Monument Valley are all in a different league in terms of awe-inspiringness. Definitely, if you are in Vegas and weighing up DV versus GC South...

Went on a whim while visiting vegas, so glad I went. The drive to the valley was stunning itself and the valley itself was sheer natural marvel. We visited the crater and the salt basin only due to time constraint. No regrets.
Stunning views! Easy to get around by car--which makes a day or two at the park plenty of time for a visit. Try to make time for a stop at the Visitor's Center if you are interested in why Death Valley is Death Valley. Be sure to follow the warning signs to bring water and NOT to walk off the...
