Always wondered what it is that makes South street one of the "places to visit in Philadelphia"... Really dirty, overcrowded and gloomy. Good food is to be found here and there but tourist traps are set along the whole strip. I would definitely recommend to spend your time some place else.

I grew up in Philly, and remember South Street when it was a vibrant community with artists' studios, funky stores and eateries. Then popularity caused the rents to go up and the funky folk moved on-- Northern Liberties is currently the cool place to go. South Street has a few leftover shops worth seeing- "Garland of Letters" but now it's... More

Not a lot to go there for; mostly tourists and the wild, young crowd at night. You can get a Philadelphia historic cheese steak sandwich at Jim's like nowhere else. It beats Pat's and Geno's hands down.

For a fun evening of dining and/or drinking this is the place to come to in Philly. There are many different types of ethnic restaurants and dining genres, plus bars where every type of alcohol known to mankind is available. Sure it can be noisy and rowdy, but that's just to let you know that this part of the city... More

Lot's of touristy things to do. Can be overcrowded but lots of girl watching, window shopping, interesting eateries.

South Street used to be a fun, funky place to hang out on a weekend and catch a show when independent artists were performing. Then eat a good meal (for a reasonable price) and do some shopping for things you would never see out in the suburbs. What happened, South Street? A few years went by and all of a... More

I love to shop here when I come to Philly. The store, City Blue...staff was AMAZING! Friendly and helpful in making sure my boyfriend walked out of there with exactly what he needed. Millennium Art Gallery has some great art work. Of course Jim's cheese steaks always complete our day.

We went to the street festival on South Street and we had a great time. Lots of musicians lined the street as well as plenty of places and stands to eat and drink.

Even after the last incident, this place will never change. Its not worth the risk to visit the local estblishments when there will never be enough Police Officers to control the local inhabitants which frequent the streets after hours. Back in the day, this place was a real gem, but not any more.

We found this area to be family friendly. My son got sneakers at a competitive price. There was very unique hat stores, lamps, clothes, jewerly, etc. It was definatley walking distance from our hotel "DoubleTree Hilton" and other attractions. The Fabrlc Row was also a short walk. We got to see the lives of the locals and their neighborhood.
