I have always considered the Savannah History Museum to be the Gateway to Savannah as it sits in The Visitor Center and is the main hub for all the trolly companies. Sadly, the museum is in need of some modernization. The short film was terrible, the exhibits were tired and the staff were lost in the own little world. I... More

For only $ 7.00 a person this is a really nice place to check out . I only opt. for the Museum instead of all 3 attractions . But my wife and I enjoyed the Museum alot . well worth the trip . ** Please note the tour buse's share a parking lot with this place ** they on the... More

It is a small museum but few interesting things, like the rail road exhibition, old dentist room and equipment, should not be top of the list while in Savannah, but if you have free time, want to spend 1-2hours and maybe learn few things, may stop here.

Born in 1696, James Edward Oglethorpe was a British general, Member of Parliament, philanthropist, and founder of the colony known as Georgia—later, its governor. As a social reformer, he hoped to resettle Britain’s poor, especially debtor prison inmates, in the New World. Largely portraying Oglethorpe’s point-of-view, Savannah History Museum (SHM) houses the famous ‘Forrest Gump bench.’ The 1994 film opening... More

Very interesting artifacts and historical pictures and the history of the girl scouts. We also saw one of the benches used in the "Forest Gump" movie.

We ran across this History museum while stopping in at the visitor center. It was a rainy day and we were looking for something to pass the time with our children (age 9,11,13.) We thought the History museum would be fun since our children are big into History. Within 10 minutes of entering the museum, we realized our $30 entrance... More

Take 3 hours and spend 14 dollars to see the savannah history museum and rail road exhibit. There's a lot of reading but I think its valuable. I missed all the guided tours so I'm sure that would have added to the experience, but they take lunch bw noon n 1 .

I visited the Savannah History Museum on March 12, 2013. At admission, I was told that there were not discounts of any type though the AAA guide indicated otherwise. This was a surprise since I anticipated some type of senior discount. The exhibits were meager and the room housing the quilts was so dimly lit that I was unable to... More

The museum is pretty limited but what they do have is interesting.. The movie gives a nice history of Savannah from the point of view of Oglethorpe.

Once a year Savannah has a free museum day. We went when it was free and happy we didn't pay. It was a bit boring and small. The boys liked looking at the weapons, and forest gump bench, but pretty much sailed through the rest in no time. I will say, non of us are big history buffs. Because of... More
