We really enjoyed this tour. Train ride provided historical information and demonstrations of gold mining. We got to pan a bag (extras for $10) and my husband and I found $22 worth of gold, which seemed average. They sold inexpensive jewelry to put the gold in for a keepsake. Complimentary hot chocolate & chocolate chip cookies. Very friendly crew! Great... More

When we toured the mine, we waited for the Princess Cruise Bus to arrive (for quite a while) before the tour began (late). All worked out in the end as we made them wait on us as we successfully panned for gold, again and again and again. (We were actually showing the Princess Cruise Tourist how to pan for gold...it... We did this as an excursion on a land/cruise trip. On the way to the Gold Dredge we stopped and saw the Alaskan pipeline, then went to the Dredge. It was a little "touristy" but we still enjoyed it. The area is beautiful, we learned a lot of history, and we did find gold. Not enough to pay for our... More

I think that it's a great opportunity to come and see a dredge that was operational through a rough time in this country. The amounts of gold it was pumping out at it's height was exorbitant. You get to pan for your own gold, if there isn't any in there, you get another poke sack free, guaranteed. The family who... More

No really, you get rich from a fun experience. First they show you a section of the Alaskan pipeline that is abover ground due to perma frost. Then you go on a train ride/informational tour of the actual dredge & gold mining. Then your given a bag a paydirt & get to pan. Everyone is guaranteed to get some color.... More

This is a fun, entertaining and educational experience. Begins with a train ride with some exhibit demonstations as you ride by. Then actual gold panning with staff showing you how to pan your paydirt sack. Everyone has the thrill of seeing the color of gold show in the bottom of their pan. Then you gold is weighted while you eat... More

It's the real thing, but way overpriced if its not included in your tour. My father was the one to collect the gold and melt it down into bars from the local dredges. Most of his family had something to do with the gold mining, including bus driving, dredge operators, winch hands etc. the gold you find is most likely "salted"... More

Well we stopped in on advice from a local, I must admit I had a great time, but anything gold interests me. The panning was fun my wife and I got about $40 in gold, not bad! I had a gret look through the dredge, amazing. The fresh cookies were awsome. The train ride is great and the entertainment top... More

You get to go on a steam train which takes your slowly round the mining area, with plenty of guys out showing you how it used to work. You can pan for gold and actually keep it. Best of all for my hubby he got to spend some time exploring the Dredge itself, which was pretty awesome. This is an... More
