Was able to take free public transportation, seeing the University, Creamer's Field. Very few birds in the field but interesting history. Would love to see the area in full migration season!

Stopped here while spending a couple days in Fairbanks. Went early morning and only saw a couple other people. Great birdwatching, bring your binoculars. We saw many sandhill cranes as well as some other cranes and many small birds. It was a nice place to take a walk on the trails and see a surprising amount of wildlife.
An early walk didn't result in any interesting bird sightings but very enjoyable. Visit the house for history of the refuge and inforamation of birds.
Very nice nature trail system. Totally recommend going (and throw in a donation!). Take binoculars if you want to see the birds.
This refuge is close to downtown Fairbanks, so gets a lot of locals jogging, hiking, etc. There are a lot of birds, so good for birders. We did not see any large mammals. Be for sure and bring your mosquito repellant, you will need it.
I love birds, and I LOVE swans and sandhill cranes, so this place was pretty stinkin' awesome to visit. There were HUNDREDS of cranes when I visited....and more coming in.
If you are big on bird watching, I highly recommend this as a stop for you. Bird geeks everywhere would rejoice at the sound of all of these different and...

There is an interpretive center housed in the old farmhouse and lots of wonderful trails, bridges, boardwalks in the back. (Guided tours and cool activities are happening throughout the year!!) People park...

Wonderful walk any time of the year. I love to go and bring my dogs, meet up with friends and watch the birds arriving in Fairbanks to show us the arrival of spring.
Visited it twice, once in August, once in February. Great both times. Sandhill crane migration in August, hiking through the snow in the Boreal Forest in February.
We (me, kids 17 and 12) rented snow shoes from Beaver Sports, about a mile or so further west on College Road. They were helpful in kitting us out and giving us advice about where to go to walk so we ended up at Creamer's. Park at the Visitors' Center (only open for a few hours at the weekend in...
