On our recent trip to Pagosa Springs and Durango, Colorado, we took a tour of the Mesa Verde National Park. As a family with two late teens, a girl and a boy, I can safely say that all of us were totally engaged in this tour. Besides the incredible natural beauty of the area, Mesa Verde, Spanish for "green table,"... More

started at 9am and left a 5pm Plan the day there. Bring water and food. See at least one of the dwellings and go to both sides of the park (less than 10% of the visitors visit the smaller side of the park) Visit the highest point in the park, just to say you did it (do this last to... More

Mesa Verde "Green Table" is the ancestral home of the Anasazi. Elevations on top of the Mesa range between 7.000-7,500 feet above sea level. The road to the top is paved, long steep, windy with tight curves and some pullouts and overlooks for views. There are 5,000+ archeological sites, 600 cliff dwellings (600 AD-1300AD) all of which are not open... More

This is our second visit here. Make sure you arrive early to get a ticket to go into one of the cliff dwellings. With kids 7 or older the Balcony House will be the right one if all are in good physical condition and not afraid of heights. It is all so obvious how these people lived since there is... More

We visited Cliff Palace (really cool, easy guided tour), Balcony House (also cool, pretty steep ladder but my 2 year old still was able to climb it), Long House (super cool! Easy to hike to! Awesome tour guide), crazy long, winding road to get there though, Spruce Tree House (self-guided tour, easy to go to, kids LOVED it), and also... More

This was our first National Park in the US we had been to. It was fantastic. We went Memorial Day weekend and it was not too busy. We stayed in Cortez (10 min from the park) and got there when it opened. We took the Long House tour and our guide was great. Don't forget to bring water and wear... More

The new Visitors Center is very nice. We visited on a hot day in June and decided to take it easy and drive the various loop roads. Even without paying for a guided tour the sites were impressive. The park system has done a great job of preserving a historical treasure. Well worth the drive from Durango for the day.... More

We had a blast with our two boys (6 and 8) at Mesa Verde National Park. We chose the "Balcony House" guided tour and boy was it worth it. Tons of fun!! We got to climb a 32' ladder, crawl through a tiny 12' tunnel and view what people lived like many years ago. Great experience. Highly recommended!!!
