The arboretum is one of the best things about Madison. There are a ton of great walking trails, gorgeous gardens and lots of wildlife. The visitor's center sponsored naturalist-led walks and they host great events, such as the local products fair in November.

I went to Edgewood College right next door and the path that runs through the Arboretum was one of my favorite spots. Whether you are going for an actual or just a stroll it is absolutely beautiful. A great little piece of nature right in the city!

The UW Arboretum has an amazing collection of plants, including its famous Lilacs, Crabapples, and Conifer collections (all labeled, for plant collectors!) But it's also a great place for a walk in the wild right in the middle of busy Madison. My favorite times are when early spring ephemerals bloom in the woods, and Prairie grasses and flowers in late... More

There's a nice feeling of solitude and freshness when you run through the Arboretum. It's beautiful with a lot of trees and marshes with few people. It's a lovely place to escape the hustle and bustle of city life.

This is a great place to escape for a few hours on a Saturday. You can hang out on a pier by the lake, surrounded by tall reeds, you can walk through the paths that wind themselves through the forest. If you're adventurous you can walk in the dark little tunnel underneath the Beltline (highway) to go to the southern... More

The arboretum displays several different kinds of tree habitats from prairie to forest all in a compact area. It's quite spectacular to walk from one distinct habitat to another, it truly is an outdoor tree museum.

The Arboretum is beautiful. Good trails to walk or bike and a visitor center that has many unique trees and they have signs and a little building that gives you information about the plants and trees.

On our most recent visit to the arboretum there was quite a bit of snow and it was cold. We drove through the entire way (it was a Sunday)---and took a bracing walk in the cold, fresh air. This is a very well managed and well used park. A treasure!

A hidden gem within the city, we enjoyed strolling the trails through the woods and the open fields with labeled trees. Trails are nicely marked. We went in early September, warm day, still a few bugs. It would be gorgeous at leaf change -- and as everything greened up in the spring. We'll definitely go again and sample it in... More
