We stopped by here and really wanted to see and understand how the energy lab worked. We investigated and there was a lecture in progress which would not have been suitable for our family. We thought it would be good to at least see abalone but couldn't really work out where to go so we ended up giving it a... More

Had to make a few trips out to the NELHA to find it open but it was interesting. Probably more geared towards children 8+. Good information on sea life, ocean technology and sustainability for the future. Several vendor tables set up in the lab from which to gather interesting facts, samples, etc. to take home.

The energy laboratory itself is not much of an attraction, it does however lead to a great beach. Wouldn't be our first choice as there are lots of great beaches in the area - still worth a visit though

NELHA gives an interesting tour of what is happening in the thriving scientific and start up community on the west side of the Big Island... NELHA is leading the change in renewable energy and ocean technology to feed and fuel the future...

NELHA (Natural Energy Lab) offers a lecture/tour package that we really enjoyed. I think it was just under $20 each and included stops to visit several tenants, including an Abalone farm. There was also a company that had 15-year old giant groupers. Amazing! You will have to make reservations in advance, as they only allow a set number of people... More

This was very interesting and a wonderful concept that those of us who live inland on the mainland don't think about. I think they could do more to publicize this place.

2 hour energy lecture is definitely meant for college age adults and older. We were pressed for time, so couldn't finish the lecture, nor go on the later tour, but learned a lot about gas and oil markets.

I'm down here at least 5 times a week with my dog. It's a great place for walking, surfing and ocean watching. Open from sunrise to sunset. On weekends you see lots of family BBQing and friends gathering for volleyball or fishing
