Definitely a stop you should make if you can. The building is artistic and interesting. If legislators are in session you can stop in the upper level viewing area. Within walking distance form other attractions.

Took an 8th grade class here. Our Congress was actually in session, a first for me in my 10 visits here in Springfield. The students got to also see a demonstration in the rotundra conducted by the IEA in opposing SB 1. The tour was the shortest we have had in resent years and I think it had to do...

Go for the beautiful dome, art and architecture. Seeing the legislative chambers was interesting. Tour guide less than inspiring.
Beautiful. We met with Senator Haine and Rep. Beiser. We stopped to see Rep Davidson. He was in caucus. The art was gorgeous. We sat in on a session.
The Capitol Building is a beautiful and very busy place. Well, it's the Capitol Building. I was given the wrong information about this building. You can enter the building at 8am, but tours do not begin until 9am. The tours are free. However if you don't get to the building by 4pm or just before you will miss the last...

The Illinois capitol tour is inclusive of all rooms, galleries, and both Senate and House chambers. See government in action in this architectural beauty.
I have to admit that we have one of the State reps as a friend. However being 'recognised' by the House as International Visitors is a highlight of my life. This was followed by tea and biscuits in the Secretary of State's office. A brief meeting with Governor Pat Quinn and a tour of the building.
We visited the Illinois State Captiol and my kids enjoyed see what a really government building inside looks like. Even though the Senate and House were not in session, you were able to go in the galleries and see the rooms first hand. That was the highlight.
The tour is free - we were able to walk over from our hotel, the state house inn, so we did not have to worry about parking. The building is spectacular - the dome is higher than the national capitol building's and is the 2nd highest in the nation's (Louisiana's is first). Outside the highlights are separate statues of Lincoln...

As beautiful as this building is, our experience was lessened by our disinterested guide who let his own political opinions (mostly about the Democrats and right to work legislation) interfere with what should have been an interesting experience. Both houses were in session and he used time in the chambers to complain about policies the groups had passed. Also complained...
