Not being a quilter myself (but travelling with one), I discovered a great exhibit included with the quilts... which were beautiful by-the-way. Plenty of unique and interesting info about the life and times of common people during the civil war. I learned about "Sanitary Fairs" as fund raisers; Communities feeding the wounded; Farming while the men were away at war;... More

A great place to take a child whose favorite questions are, "What's that?" and, "Why?" Our three year old and eighteen month old thoroughly enjoyed the museum exhibits, more even than the children's play area.

If you are looking for a state-of-the-art museum, this may not be the place. However, if you are looking for a great outing with children, this is an awesome little spot. Admission is FREE and there is a great variety of things to explore in a relatively small museum. There are native american and science displays to help explain Illinois... More

As a fellow quilter I had deep appreciation for this display. Just knowing how much work a quilt requires now a days-makes you appreciate where we came from. Not only that but these antique quilts were in excellent shape, displayed well, with a very interesting story with each one. I would highly recommend this exhibit for all quilters, civil war buffs-it gives you... More

As fairly new residents of Illinois, we enjoyed seeing the State Museum, it was easy to park there. The grounds were well cared for and the exhibits were pertinent.

My 2 year old daughter and I visit the museum often. She loves the exhibits and especially the play museum. We've spent as little as 45 minutes to as much as 3 hours there. She would stay longer if I let her. Staff is friendly & the bathrooms are clean. The gift shop has great gifts and goodies different than... More

We visited this museum after we did the Lincoln home, museum, library, and tomb. It was the perfect end to a perfect day. The natural history presentation was no less than fantastic. This exhibit appeals to children and adults without being silly or patronizing. It was probably the best natural history exhibit I have seen. The museum also had an... More

This is a great museum in Springfield, IL. It sits on the Capitol complex. It covers the geologic history of Illinois and historic role Illinois has played in the history of the nation. There is a playroom in the basement and a very nice textile exhibit on the third floor. We spent a couple of hours there and felt like... More
