Amazing history in this place... but a very interesting place to visit. Lots of tours... famous people - an all around different kind of experience. If you catch it when there is an event here...yes, event ... it is definitely worth a visit !

If you have not toured Oakland, you are missing out! Stop and see Bobby Jones grave where people leave golf balls. The confederate soldiers are resting there as well as Generals, and past politicians. Stop by Margaret Mitchell and you will feel a little "Gone with the Wind."

We spent a pleasant hour or so wandering around here. Signage isn't too great so its best to wander and see who you find. (The visitor center only wanted to sell guided tour maps but it seems that there should be some sort of free one.) The Confederate graves and Lion monument were moving until I remembered that all of... More

Oakland Cemetery is a cool historic place to check out. The old oak & magnolia trees are so large & beautiful and there are so many blooming plants (hydrangeas, lilies etc) throughout the cemetery that it's almost like walking thru a garden. The mausoleums, monuments & statues are also beautiful works of art though a few statues are damaged &... More

My grandson aged 8 and my niece in her twenties went with me on a beautiful late January day. We wanted to visit the graves of the Confederate soldiers there near the Lion of the Confederacy monument. This was a family pilgrimage for us. We were glad to see that the graves of ALL the Confederates were well cared for... More

My kids were not thrilled at the thoughts of visiting a cemetery..let alone a cemetery so close to a big city. I told them it was a tourist attraction which it was. They were envisioning a dark, spooky, empty, crime riddled place. They were relieved to see the number of folks exploring the place. We strolled around most of the... More

I never really thought I would say that about a cemetery - but it was a recommended site in Atlanta so my husband and I popped by after stopping into the Octane coffee shop across the street. It is a beautiful cemetery that lends itself to a nice contemplative morning walk. It is well maintained and has lovely landscaping. The... More

The historic Oakland cemetary was a hidden gem. I walked to it from my hotel. It turned out to be a hot walk, but well worth finding. Lots of sculptures and architecture. I likeed the ancient oaks and magnolias. Despite being in the middle of Atlanta it was a peaceful place. Lots of history here.

Our visit to Historic Oakland Cemetery was like visiting a park, a beautiful park that has been lovingly cared for. It was one of the most beautiful cemeteries we've ever visited and we always try to pay our respects to the souls from the past, at least one visit wherever we go. You can drive through, but park on the... More

Very nice quiet walk through a gorgeous historic cemetery. Highly recommend for an inexpensive (free) afternoon when enjoying Atlanta.
