for $3 per person the very knowledgeable park ranger will take you in a group of 20 plus on a guided 1 hour tour. Purchase tickets at the park entrance, the ranger station located in the campground, or the museum, PRIOR to showing up for the tour. Definitely worth it. Schedule about 2 hours between tours. This was our favorite of all the tours at Mesa Verde. The rangers do a wonderful job of making the tour interesting, educational and humorous for all ages. The trip in and out of Balcony House is half the fun!

Family of three, $9, 60 minutes of history. Ms. Johnson did a great job with the tour. Our 12 year old totally enjoyed the stories and climbing up all the ladders, climbing down the side of the mountain on the rock steps, going through the tunnels and wondering how they got their water and food up and down these cliffs... This house is as nice as the others. The particularity is the way to get here. A wonderful ranger take you here trough high ladder, small tunnels and rough steps in the mountain. Even a 3 year old child and elderly did that, so everybody can enjoy this experience.

Balcony House was the second tour we took at Mesa Verde. There is a wooden ladder to climb before you get to the ruin, our group had a very diverse mix of ages and body types and everyone made it without any problems. Upon exiting the tour there's a small space where you must crawl through a short tunnel on... More

We had visited Mesa Verde 35 years ago, when we were in our thirties & loved this tour. We wanted to do it again & are really glad we did. In addition to learning once again about the Ancient Puebloans who built the dwellings & lived here, we had a ton of fun! At the beginning of the tour, you... More

Definitely an experience not to be missed, the climb up to Balcony House and back out gives you a good perspective on the originial inhabitants.

Balcony House is the second most spectacular cliff dwelling at Mesa Verde available only on a ranger-guided tour. They make a big deal of telling you how much more challenging it is than Cliff Palace, because there are a couple of long ladders to climb, there is an 18" by 12" tunnel to crawl through, and there are some near-vertical... Get your tickets ahead of time at the wonderfully new visitor center. If you have only 1 site to visit, Balcony House is it! Ladders to climb, wonderfully preserved rooms, a tunnel to squeeze through and more ladders on the way out. The rangers are the best. A great American treasure!

Mesa Verde wouldn't be Mesa Verde without the Balcony House. Don't be overly concerned about the warnings of strenuous and dangerous terrain and climbs. It's really quite sedate and safe. This is a wonderful experience in the Southwest part of Colorado.
