One of the most visited cloud forests in Ecuador is the natural Reserve Mindo-Nambillo Protected Forest 14,170 hectares (35,000 acres), ranging from 1,400 to 4,778m. Hundreds of bird species (400 species) recorded here. The town approximately 2 hours drive from Quito, you can visit here on a day trip or stay overnight at one of the several confortable lodges in the town. Mindo has tourist attractions like tubing, orchids, butterfly gardens, cable car, waterfalls, accommodations for ecotravellers and access to different types of cloud forest. Highly recommended for Nature Lovers.

We are not birders, but wanted to experience what the canopy is famous for. We saw lots of wonderful birds to with a guide who has the proper equipment and knowledge to spot and identify the various birds. We got some great photos too.

If you want to get a nice idea of nature around Mindo go to this place. You can walk there, a nice pleasant 4 km walk uphill, or take a taxi from town. You arrive at a Tarabita (a cable car) that crosses the valley and already shows you spectacular views of the valley below. When you get to the...
