Start in the visitor center with a film that captures one of the many battles between the North & the South. Then hop in your car and drive to the 8 spots on the Eastern Front. You can get out where ever you like & wander -- take photos. Drive the Western Front's 4 spots -- especially get out &... More

You can tell when you drive up that the people who designed Pamplin Historical Park really took their time and thought it through. I have live her for 4 years and never even heard about it until my son 4th grade had a class trip there. They really have gone above and beyond to make it interesting for the students.... More

Battlefields are all along the cities in Virginia. This one is a plain field like many others. Instead the city should just put up a site map instead of spending so much to make it a Battlefield park

After the modern and wonderful interactive displays at the private Pamplin Historical Park situated right on the "Breakthrough" battlefield of 1864-65, this national museum was truly a disappointment. It has very few exhibits in the tiny visitors center and the slideshow which should be the centerpiece of the park is old fashioned and very dated--as though it were made in... More

Allow plenty of time to take in all the areas that make up the complete battlefield. The video is a must see before you take in the sights and don't miss General Grants HQ overlooking the City Point area. All the Rangers were very helpful and are well versed in the history of the battle and also many other facts... More

The short video and display in the Visitor Centre set the scene for the 10 month siege of the city and the eventual Union 'victory'. The short walking tour and then driving tour around the actual earthworks of the battle area are much richer for having checked-out the Visitor Centre. The Rangers are very knowledgeable and helpful. Well worth the... More

The park is very well kept and maintained, it has a very limited access to automobiles. The trails are very easy to cover by foot with walking distances under an hour. If it is the history that you are trying to immense yourself in, then it properly would be a good idea to hire a historian as your guide to... More

We love this park! The battlefield is huge and really gorgeous. The information along the trails is helpful and interesting. We've taken walks here almost weekly for the last 6 months and just love it. The fall is gorgeous, and even winter is pleasant. HUGE trees, lovely rolling hills, and fascinating Civil War history. Enjoy well maintained paths, friendly rangers,... More

Site of the longest battle at the end of the bloody American Civil War. Lincoln visited the Union troops here (portrayed in the film "Lincoln"). Original earthen fortifications, remants of the infamous "Battle of the Crater" and good interpretative guides including apps.
