Got the opportunity to visit a friend in Kona last summer. She took me snorkeling to this spot, one of the supposedly best spots on the island. It was my first experience snorkeling and it was really tricky to get in and out of the water, due to the slippery rocks and the sea urchins which my friend instilled fear... More

We are the locals here and would like to offer some help and guidance for those coming to the bay. This bay may just have the best snorkeling in the state. Yet there is NO beach access to the ocean. You must enter from the rocks and if there is any swell at all it can be very dangerous. So... More

We went to Pu'uhonua o Honaunau (wish I could say that!) National Park first and left our car in the parking lot and walked over as it was very busy and the parking lot looked pretty full. We did have some trouble getting in and out of the water.... lots of fish though and felt safe with so many other... More

Been going here for years off and on now...easy to get in even when there is a little swell if you go in where there are two steps - watch the locals where they get in and how. If it's clear it can be over 100ft visability and you can see many kinds of fish here. Beautiful scuba spot too.... More

A national park beach that is popular with the locals. The picnic area next to the water has a spectacular view.

We started or day at the City of Refuge then walked over to Two Step for some snorkeling. You can pay to park at the National Park and leave your car there while snorkeling. The City of Refuge is pottery neat. We did the self guided tour using the park brochure. I really enjoyed the carvings (big heads as I... More

I always spend a few days snorkeling in Honaunau Bay (AKA Two Step) whenever I am on the Big Island. I love the snorkeling here and I think it is one of the best spots in Hawaii. The coral is healthy, and the fish and other marine life varied and abundant. The rocks on the shore get a little crowded... More

Great place to see fish and coral but was hard to get into the water without getting beat up by the rocks on a windy day.

Honaunau Bay is without a doubt one of the worlds greatest places to snorkel. The waters are very protected from the ocean surf thus making them chrystal clear so you can take fantastic underwater photos and video. Access into and exiting the water is very easy if you use "the 2 step". Once in the water you will be treated... More
