I may have enjoyed the area if not for the following factors: - We visited the Federal Hill area on a Tuesday in May when it was not very busy and the area seemed dead, like any other downtown area - We walked from our hotel, the Courtyard by Marriott which was not very far, and on the way back... Blue Grotto had a special Women and Wine tasting night. It was fun....but, really not what I expected . Each party had there own table and a different wine was served with each course....we were seated all night...I would have enjoyed walking around and mingling. Actually, the food and wine were very good.

You feel like you are in little Italy. Some of the best italian food ever in great speciality markets and restaurants. A must when in Providence.

The variety of shops and restaurants is great. The only real problem is parking. However, valet parking at most restaurants.

If you are fortunate to visit Providence, you must walk up to Federal Hill. It is not only rich with it's history, but filled with food choices galore. Many Italians arrived in the city in the late 1800's and early 1900's settling in this area of Providence. Two beautiful churches sit at both ends of 'the hill.'. Along Atwells Ave.... More

There are wonderful deli's, a bakery and other dining spots too numerous to mention. None have ever disappointed me.

Traditionally known for it's concentration of Italian restaurants; as Providence' restaurant scene has evolved, so too has this area offering much more than the ubiquitous Calamari and Pasta joints. Most of the restaurants and shops are situated on Atwells Avenue, which runs through the heart of this neighborhood.

Love this place especially in summer when you can sit outside and enjoy a pitcher of sangria and a wood grilled pizza! Also enjoy Zooma's very much.

No need to travel to Italy to get true Italian food--either at a restaurant or groceries. I go regularly to buy pasta, sauces, and bakery items. There are numerous great eateries--don't overlook the ones that aren't fancy. Their food is often the best. Federal Hill is just a great place to wander, munch, sit, watch the world go by.
