We wandered through the house, but the real beauty was in the enthusiasm of the volunteers. Be sure to strike up a conversation and learn more. We loved sitting on the huge porch and pretending we'd gone back in time.

The story of the Marquis & his unsuccessful meatpacking venture was a fascinating bit of history. The chateau is well preserved with nearly all of the original furnishings intact. Quite interesting to see how Eastern high society was brought West to the prairies.
Two giant personalities arrived in Medora, ND in 1883. They both stayed and ate here. One personalty was Theodore Roosevelt. The other was the founder of the town, and builder and owner of this house, the French Count de Mores. The small admission fee ($7) is worth every cent. You can tour the home at your own speed because historical...

Well worth the time spent. A look at how the aristocracy lived in the long gone past. Nothing spectacular but that is on of the things that makes the site interesting. Not what you expect.
What a "hunting lodge". Amazing to see what those who had money were able to do in the 1880's. The lodge is nicely furnished with original period pieces. Narrators of the historical society are on hand for questions and brief descriptions of the many rooms. Worth the admittance fee.
We went to the building to buy tickets to Chateau de Mores and saw the short movie and the display. I especially liked that their 26 room house still has 90% of...

It is wonderful to see how the de Moreses lived while they were in the Badlands and fun to think about what it was like to be a visitor to their place in the time. The house is beautiful, the views spectacular and the guides knowledgable. The visitor's center gives a lot of good background and it's helpful to go...

It isn't often you are invited into a piece of history like this. The family home and just about everything in it are all in amazing shape and original to the house. The Marquis de Mores and his family thought they would be returning to Medora so they left all of their N.D. belongings behind. Years later we have the...

This "Large house on the prairie" is an interesting place to see for the historic value. These people were European royalty and this house was a large farmhouse. Ok, the guy founded Medora (named after his wife), rode around in fancy clothes and entertained many local and foreign bigshots, but he left after only three years and went back to...
