This was our final stop on our busy five mansion tour day. This was the only tour, which had a real person telling you about the house. She was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. The house is VERY different from the other mansions. It still has many some trinkets collected by the owners, which I appreciated. This was the most "homey"... More

I really enjoyed this home because it felt like a place that someone actually lived in. In contrast to the others, this home was lived in for decades, not just for summers. Having a tour guide rather than a headset, was an advantage as you could ask questions as you go. My group was just one other woman along with... More

I was extremely pleased to have an actual tour guide for this home. It certainly has a more lived in feel and it more home-y than the other mansions we visited. The guide provided lots of information about the past inhabitants, and there were lots of wonderful little bits and pieces of information we picked up here that we couldn't... More

This older mansion, dating to the 1840's, was lived in until recently. Most of the furniture and decorations stayed with the property, giving it more of a lived in and livable feel than the other mansions in Newport that are open to tourists. No audio tour here, but the guide took great interest in describing the property and its history.

Kingscote was a great little stop. First of all, the house is not a mansion in comparison to The Breakers or The Elms, or others like those. But it is a very large house, especially for the time period it was built in. Kingscote's furnishings and wall decorations are all original from the house when it was lived in. Very... More

We went here today for a tour. The house itself is really interesting...different than many of other historic buildings, but still worth a visit. The other reviews here characterize it well. Our real issue was with the staff. The gentleman in the main visitor center was a discredit to the home and the Newport Preservation Society. Possessing sarcasm and a... More

Go here first when touring mansions. It is the oldest home, the most understated, Gothic style and the most down to earth of the mansions. Make The Breakers the last stop, if you choose to go, because the contrast is enormous and not in a good way. The Breakers will look gaudy.

this mansion is one of the earliest ones in Newport. Really different as it predates all the others. Docent was great and gave good insights into the rise of Newport

Unlike many of the other Newport Mansions that were built when "conspicuous consumption" seems to have been in vogue, Kingscote is a warm and comfortable home that we could actually image living in. It is elegant without being ostentatious. In fact, most of the rooms are very warm and homey. You can not visit this home on your own. You... More

I'm glad we selected this as one of the mansions to visit. It's really in a different class as one of the oldest built and recently occupied mansions. The decor is much busier than others as it represents the time and style of the period it is from; and the personal touches of house recently lived in. Also, well presented... More
