Definitely worth the hard work to walk up, the views really are amazing of Waikiki. Walk includes stairs, tunnels and steep slopes, but all fairly easy and safe. Took me about an hour and a half, but I did spend a while at the top. I would go again

This was a brilliant thing to do. Make sure you do it early though. I think it opens at 6am, we got there just after and it was already fairly busy but it was cool and just the right temperature to walk in. The walk is not too bad although if you're not generally fit you might struggle with some...

This does have a beautiful view, for sure. But it was definitely a hot hike up. We hopped a bus ride #23 to get here and then walked up to the gate at around 9am, I think the ticket was a dollar or two. By that time it really started to heat up. The best time to go is at...

Go early in the morning because it gets packed! It's windy so careful with your hat. The grey ladybugs are cute but they bite! This is not a challenging hike.
We stayed in Waikiki for 1 week. In one of the day we rented a car for the tour of the island. First stop was on Diamond Head. Despite very hot weather, we’ve had a good hike (30 minutes to the top), enjoyed the view, took some great pictures and witnessed a marriage proposal from a young man (so American!)....

We walked from Waikiki, then did the hike. It was pretty hot, but the views were worth it. Not nearly as crowded as I feared it would be. We should have started out earlier in the day to avoid the mid-day heat.
We're from NYC and it was great to see a natural attraction. We may have still be in the US, but this sight let us truly appreciate how far away from home we were.
There are lots of places on Oahu to see great views and with my knees bothering me, hiking when you don't need to isn't necessary to see the crater. We had a packed schedule, so we did what one sight recommended, we drove into the crater and turned around before the entry gate where you pay admission. That alone was...

We hired a car for the day to drive around Oahu - this was our first stop - drove into the crater and parked - fun walk and a great view - we set off at 8 am which was a good thing - it was a really warm day and built up quite a sweat even on an early...

We tried to get here early to beat the heat but alas..we were trekking up in the midday heat. It was still a great hike. The views were incredible! Bring water and dress for the heat to make it a lot more pleasant. It is not a difficult hike and is a must see!
