This is a massive storm surge barrier which protects the are from devastating floods while allowing the tides to ebb and flow between the North Sea and the rivers flowing into it. There was a flood in 1953 which destroyed much of this area and killed many people. The government began building this system immediately and completed it by 1961.... More

The Deltaworks was a great exhibition, though it's a bit far from downtown. It's really interesting, especially for those who interested in hydraulic and so on. I went there when i stayed in Delft. The Deltawerken Oosterschelde Expo is a big showcase of Dutch engineering and water management. We thought the entrance fee was pricey, since you have to pay extra for parking as well. But the exhibits are done nicely, and definitely worthwhile for families with kids.

It was an ok daytrip to Neeltje Jns but defeinitely not worth the entry cost.
